"The mighty glacial drone returns. Anla Courtis, guitarist extraordinaire from the mighty Reynols, returns with a single-track 3" release on the excellent 267 Lattajjaa imprint. On this single, 20-minute composition, Courtis leaves it all on the table. Using his guitar as the main weapon, he settles in to making some of the most hypnotic and beautiful music I've heard in some time. As this piece slowly builds up, various layers are added. They come in subtly, and you barely realize how much is going on until the last minute. This is brilliant. Courtis works in a jew's harp beautifully, and surprisingly it doesn't seem out of place amongst this shimmering drone. Cathartic releases of tension dot this piece. I feel like all of my stress is being slowly extracted and released into the heavens, never to be heard from again. It just builds monumentally. By the time the more abrasive, wailing guitars come in at the end, you are free. Flying through the clouds at light speed, Courtis is your guide to a higher plane of consciousness. He uses "electric guitar, organ, mouth harp & hawk-bells", and as a result, amigos, "the glimmer of the light knows no limits". Style-wise this is quite similar to some works of Birchville Cat Motel, but - if possible - even better. The sound is a bit cleaner and also heavier (not in metal sense) and it suits this just fine. The amazing guitar part in the last 5 minutes is the final hit from the bong. There's no chance but to surrender to The Sound. "Tämä on melko kivanoloinen 3" CD-R argentiinalaiselta Anla Courtikselta, joka on soittanut kitaraa Reynolsissa. "Un drone (sonido que se extiende durante un tiempo considerable) de veinte minutos sostenido en el órgano y la guitarra eléctrica. Promediando el tema se introducen un arpa de boca y algunos sonidos percusivos.
El título remite a una cita tomada de la Enéada V de Plotino, filósofo neoplatónico del siglo III cuyo sincretismo religioso ofrece una pauta de las preocupaciones espirituales de Courtis. Se trata de un momento previo a la absorción del neoplatonismo en el pensamiento cristiano y se basa en la asunción de que todo desciende de Dios por grados y todo vuelve a él por grados. Una suerte de infinitud que se encuentra más allá de toda determinación y que, por eso mismo, se convierte en el rasgo distintivo de una perfección a la que el hombre, ser inferior e imperfecto, no puede menos que aspirar.
El resplandor de la luz alude a la emanación mediante la cual Dios deriva todos los demás seres de su propia plenitud como tal, de manera semejante a como el sol, siendo luz en sí, irradia su fulgor en todas direcciones. Y si bien esta derivación de seres gradualmente inferiores constituye un descenso progresivo, existen tres caminos ascendentes para la elevación espiritual y la conversión hacia Dios. El primero de ellos consiste en la contemplación de la armonía y refiere explícitamente a la música.
La obra recupera este recorrido al abrirse y cerrarse con el drone en primer plano, apoyado en las fuentes instrumentales citadas mientras hacia la mitad del tema (camino) se introducen ciertas variaciones rítmicas subrepticias que puntúan y marginan al sonido alargado. No obstante, éste vuelve a adquirir fuerza hasta cerrarse en una especie de círculo perfecto con la presencia recobrada del órgano y, en especial, la e-guitar, reproduciendo el desarrollo del universo plotiniano. Una doctrina emanantista, que tiende a incidir en muchas obras de Courtis y en gran parte de la estética general de Reynols, anterior -y en gran medida opuesta- a la consideración creacionista del mundo característica del cristianismo.
