REVIEWS:
"some great free-form "jazz" improv, not IMPULSE!, but more in the spirit of art ensemble of chicago & ESP DISK madness. reeds flutter, drums spatter, percussion clanks & new worlds are formed." Glenn Donaldson, Jewelled Antler
"If you haven't already picked up this free-jazz combo's recent full-length LP you should try to get that one along with this shorter sample of their sound. It's an organic improv session that breathes countryside air, sensing the grass between its toes and quietly blowing us away. there's not many contemporary free jazz outfits being this quiet but still somehow unleashing so much power. If Felix does not impress you I'm guessing no free jazz will." Mats Gustafsson, Broken Face
"Rauhan Orkesteri is, as far as I know, the only real freejazz band in Finland at the moment. Despite the lack of competition, the quartet (drums + bass + 2 x reeds) still does its job extremely well. As you all should know, listening to jazz regularly is essential for one's spiritual well-being, and the more free your jazz is, the better you feel (cf. the disc title). The four tracks on this fine disc remind me of the mellower, yet still free, side of Albert Ayler, and also of Art Ensemble Of Chicago at their least structured and most textural moments. I remember other reviews also comparing RO to those two, so I'm not alone with my opinion. I really like the music of Rauhan Orkesteri a lot, but I cannot stand their name (it's finnish for The Peace Orchestra), and I totally despise their pseudo-hippie, peace, love, flowers and cuteness image. It makes me FUCKING SICK.
I don't mean that every band should be titled Nazi Rapist 666, but "The Peace Orchestra" is just too pretentious." Pekka PT, Dilettante's Digest "4 tracks, roughly 21 minutes, of primal free jazz blurt from this killer new Finnish quartet that consistently toasts yr brain with a combination of post Fire Music moves and veins that run deep into Finnish soil. This free folk/jazz hook-up is paying off in all sorts of unexpected ways. File this next to yr Päivänsäde LP and know that yr on top of things." Volcanic Tongue
